About TBCC

Founded in 1989 by Dr. Averill Summer, the Chorus is open to students in grades 3-12, selected by audition, who are divided by age and ability into three choirs. The Chorus has an outstanding performance history locally, nationally and internationally. Here at home, the Chorus performs regularly with the Florida Orchestra, the Master Chorale, the Tampa Oratorio Society, and the choirs and orchestras of the University of South Florida. Nationally, the Chorus has represented our community with performances in New York City, Washington, D.C. and across the state of Florida. Internationally, the Chorus has participated in choral festivals in Paris, Vienna, London, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Vancouver and Toronto.

Dr. Averill SummerDr. Averill Summer, Founder and Artistic Director of the Tampa Bay Children’s Chorus, is Associate Professor of Piano at the University of South Florida. Active as a clinician, lecturer, and recitalist, she has performed in the United States and Europe. Dr. Summer has served as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for the American Choral Directors Association, Royal School of Church Music, Music Teacher’s National Association, and Music Educators National Conference. An active concert pianist, Dr. Summer has appeared with orchestras throughout the state, including the Florida Orchestra, the Lakeland Imperial Symphony Orchestra and the Tampa Bay Symphony. She has sung in choral
performances conducted by Dr. Robert Shaw, Sir David Willcocks, and Doreen Rao and has prepared choirs for renowned conductors Doreen Rao, Jahja Ling and Valdimir Verbitsky.
